Oh my, I was there!
We are in Mexico, hired a photographer and my kids are bouncing around the beach and photographer is chancing them and we are embarrassed and trying to get kids' attention.
So, my dear parents, that is NORMAL!!! We are raising 2 very active kids. And every photo shoot is very chaotic with them. Here few trick and tips how to survive this disaster and get beautiful images of your kids for years to come
1. PICK A RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER
Ask photographer you want to hire how she will approach your kids and what is a photo shoot goal and what is expected result (how many images, what type of images and how its going to go).
2. BE FLEXIBLE.
Just roll with it. You can plan the best outfits and plan it out and ask them to smile but kids will do what they do!
3. JUST HAVE FUN
I love to pose my clients and create perfect portraits. And its impossible with a 2 year old! Just have fun and interact with your kids. I rather have beautiful, happy smiling faces in the action than posed unhappy crying kids.
4. BRING A SMALL SNACK
I recommend my clients to bring favorite snack: dry and small, like cheerios, chocolate bunnies, gold fishes. Sometimes if you get lucky kids will get distracted from the beach or park and get interested in a snack for a split second for a photographer to snap the perfect shot.
5. DO NOT PUSH KIDS
It's always hard to find a balance between getting the right shots and be sensitive to kids and feel when they had enough! Sometimes photo shoot can be 2 hours sometimes I can get all perfect photos in 30 minutes. And sometimes kids do not want to do anything with you after few minutes.
This little boy had a perfect outfit in the begging of the photo shoot on Edisto Beach, SC. And he had way too much fun playing in the waves with mom so in 30 minutes he got soaked. And I got few perfect portraits when he was in a diaper.
Good luck to and just have fun! Your kids are perfect and they do what they just suppose to!
